How Drillmech mitigates supply issues with end-to-end service.

When it comes to project management in the mining sector, Ausdrill has changed the game over the last 30 years. They’ve got a reputation for innovation — so when they got in touch about the refurbishment of a Grade Control Drill, our team was super keen to partner with them.

When the defunct GC600 arrived at our 7,200sqm workshop, it had seen better days. Having been parked onsite for several years thanks to unreliability, Ausdrill was keen to give it a new lease on life.

Our on-site team of auto electricians, boilermakers, drill fitters, and apprentices stripped it back to get the lay of the land. This comprehensive discovery process means we can get ahead of potential issues, resulting in future savings for our clients.

Thanks to our in-house machining and specialist fabrication skills, we control the timeline of every project. These days, the GC600 is back to work after a full upgrade:

  • New pressure-tested steel pipes have been designed and fitted to replace the existing compressor hoses which will increase the longevity of the machine — and keep Ausdrill’s people safe at work
  • A custom designed PLC computer system boosts reliability — with fewer moving parts, it need less maintenance and runs more efficiently
  • Remote monitoring gives Ausdrill access to site data — making it easy to identify professional development opportunities and support operators

Drillmech’s end-to-end service model meant Ausdrill had one point of contact throughout. And regular costing updates ensured there were no surprises at the end of the job.

Drillmech showed true care in the work done to our GC600 drill, thanks to the diligent crew they have under their shed. Supply issues have been a problem across the industry but having the facilities, equipment, and experience to do everything in-house allowed this job to flow fluently and go deeper than we initially expected.
